Botox or Dysport Treatments Austin

Where did those lines come from? Feel like you have an “angry” look? Have the “11’s” in your forehead? Botox may provide a solution for you.

Botox has become as much a part of our vocabulary as the word Google with over one million people receiving Botox treatments every year.

However, many people still don’t know what Botox is, how it works or what it is really used for. At Elysian Plastic Surgery, Dr. David Dellinger, double-board certified Plastic Surgeon has been treating patients with Botox for over 15 years.

Botox has been around for decades, used for the treatment of spasms of the eyelids and in 1987 a pair of Canadian physicians noticed the side effect of reducing lines and wrinkles.

Botox blocks the connection of the nerve at the muscle, temporarily diminishing the ability of the muscle to fully contract. Injected to the facial muscles, Botox helps to soften the lines of the forehead, eyebrow and crows feet areas.

Once injected, Botox will begin working within 24-48 hours, but may take up to 7-10 days to achieve a full effect. Improvements from Botox injections may last for 3-4 months before the nerve-muscle connection repairs itself and normal function resumes.

Since its initial introduction, the uses of Botox have expanded and new uses seem to be found every year.

Will I look “fake” or “frozen” like I’ve had surgery?

Done correctly, Botox is a treatment that should soften and smooth the areas treated.   You’ll still look normal and you should not lose the ability to show normal facial expression. It is important to talk about the results you want from treatment.

 Does Having Botox hurt?

Most patients say the treatment feels like a small “pinch” and some patients request the use of a topical numbing cream before treatment. Ice is sometimes used as a numbing agent as well.

Is Botox safe and are there side effects to Botox?

Botox is a very safe medication with over 30 years of use. A small number (<3%) of patients report some slight eyelid drooping in the frown lines studies and 1% of patients experienced eyelid swelling in the crow’s feet studies. Other possible side-effects include are rare and will be reviewed again at the time of your procedure.
