Browlift Austin

A browlift, sometimes called a “forehead lift” is a surgery designed to primarily lift eyebrow and forehead . The primary goal of a browlift is to correct the lower forehead and eyebrow area that may have “drooped’ or descended with time and age. Additionally, some of the “frown lines” in the area between the eyebrows and forehead can be improved.

Who is a good candidate for a browlift?

  • If you feel your brow area has descend with time. Many times this is a hereditary trait
  • The key sign of a descended, drooping brow is when the eyebrows have reached a point below the eye socket when your face is relaxed
  • If you have excess skin in the upper eyelid area that would not be corrected with an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty)
  • If you have excessive frown lines that are not adequately treated with Botox or Dysport

How is the procedure done?

  • While in some situations, the procedure can be done under ‘twilight’ anesthesia, most patients have a regular anesthetic
  • Small incisions are made in the hairline and an endoscope (camera)  and other small instruments  are used to free the forehead from the underlying bone.
  • Some of the muscle tissue in the lower brow area may be removed and the forehead lifted, elevating the brow area. Typically, even a small amount of elevation makes a big difference.

Is the procedure covered by insurance

  • In some cases, yes. You would have to have significant enough descent of the brow and eyelid area that part of your visual field is significantly obstructed. A simple test at your optometrist or ophthalmologist would determine is the degree of obstruction is significant enough to be covered by insurance.
