Sculptra® Aesthetic

As the skin gradually produces less and less collagen each year after the age of 20, your skin thins and wrinkles begin to form. Sculptra® Aesthetic uses poly-L-lactic acid to stimulate collagen production deep in the layers of your skin to help restore lost volume and minimize the appearance of facial wrinkles by improving your skin’s underlying structure.*

Dr. David Dellinger maintains board certifications in both plastic/reconstructive and general surgery, and has more than 20 years of experience performing surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments. At Elysian Plastic Surgery, Dr. Dellinger works with men and women in Austin and throughout Texas who are interested in improving their appearance with non-surgical cosmetic treatments.

Best Candidates for Sculptra Aesthetic

Sculptra Aesthetic may be right for healthy men and women who are interested in treating the signs of aging in their face. Sculptra Aesthetic can be used to temporarily treat smile lines around the nose and mouth, marionette lines and chin wrinkles and add volume to improve the contours under the eyes, lips and cheeks.*

What to Expect

During your consultation, Dr. Dellinger will assess your face, talk with you about your concerns and explain your treatment options. JUVÉDERM®, a hyaluronic acid dermal filler, or BOTOX® may be better options for you, depending on a number of different factors.*

Your Sculptra® Aesthetic appointment may last from 15 to 60 minutes depending on the number of areas you have treated. Your skin will be cleansed, then Dr. Dellinger will inject Sculptra® Aesthetic into the deep dermis layer of your skin that contains collagen. Ice or a topical numbing cream may be applied to ensure your comfort.

You may need more than one appointment to see the best results. Many people have three injection appointments over a few months. Dr. Dellinger will recommend how many treatments and how many injections per appointment may be right for you.*

Your Sculptra Aesthetic Recovery & Results

You can get back to your daily routine after your Sculptra Aesthetic treatment. Ice or cool compresses can help alleviate swelling and redness at the injection sites. You shouldn’t wear makeup until several hours after your appointment.*

Your face may look slightly different immediately after your Sculptra Aesthetic treatment but the plumpness is likely from the sterile water in the injections and your face should return to normal in a few days. Because Sculptra Aesthetic boosts collagen production, your results need time to develop. You should see gradual improvements in your face about 4 to 6 weeks after treatment. Your Sculptra Aesthetic results may last more than 2 years.*

Sculptra FAQs

How much do Sculptra injections cost?

When it comes to the cost of dermal fillers, such as Sculptra, cost varies based on many different factors. This can include the experience of the provider, the areas treated, how many syringes are required to achieve the desired results and even your geographical location. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates the average cost for each Sculptra syringe is $915.

How is Sculptra different than other dermal fillers?

The majority of dermal fillers on the market are hyaluronic acid and work to fill in lost facial volume. Sculptra is different. It is made of poly-L-lactic acid that, once injected, works under the skin to stimulate collagen production and build up your skin’s inner structure. This collagen stimulation helps to strengthen a new facial framework and provides a restoration of overall facial volume.

How does Sculptra work and what does it treat?

While other dermal fillers inject a gel that increases volume but disperses over time, Sculptra stimulates your body to produce new collagen, helping to restore facial volume naturally. Treatments target shallow to deep nasolabial folds and facial wrinkles.

Am I a candidate for Sculptra injections?

The ideal candidate for Sculptra has facial volume loss and facial wrinkles and volume loss. They are over 18 and in good general health. Sculptra injections are not for everyone and those that are pregnant, lactating or breastfeeding should wait for treatment. If you have any allergies to bovine collagen or lidocaine, Sculptra is not recommended. Also, you should avoid Sculptra injections if you have a bleeding disorder or are prone to irregular scarring.

Do Sculptra injections hurt?

While Sculptra is injected deeper into the skin than other injectables, the discomfort is minimal. In many cases, a local anesthetic, such as lidocaine, is applied before your injections, helping to further reduce any possible discomfort. After treatment, you may experience minor swelling, but you can relieve this by applying a cold compress.

Are Sculptra results immediate? How long do they last?

While some dermal fillers provide immediate results, the results of Sculptra are gradual, offering more natural results. Because it stimulates collagen growth, your results continue to improve over time as new collagen works to strengthen your skin. Because your results are gradual, it is less likely people will suspect you had any work done. And the results continue to show improvement for up to two years.

Are there any risks of possible side effects with Sculptra treatments?

Sculptra injections are safe, but, as with any form of injection, there is always the potential of side effects. You may experience temporary tenderness at the injection sites, swelling, itching, redness, bruising or bleeding. You may also experience small lumps or bumps underneath the skin. These side effects usually resolve on their own within a couple of days.

Should I expect any downtime?

There is no downtime with Sculptra, though you should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun after treatment. Most people return to daily activities immediately after treatment. You can resume wearing makeup within a few hours of treatment.

Should I do anything at home after Sculptra injections?

Facial massage is an essential part of Sculptra aftercare. Massage your treated areas for five minutes, five times a day, for five days following treatment. Cold compresses can be applied to help reduce any swelling or discomfort. Avoid exposure to the sun and UV lights until all swelling and redness disappear.
